If you are spending more each month than you earn, it is time to realize that you need to start working and do something to improve your financial situation. Sometimes it’s hard to admit that we’re the reason our finances are messed up. The good news is that it can be fixed and with a little work, your budget will work for you.
Stop making things complicated.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes you look at your budget and realize it’s too complicated. If you don’t like setting up a monthly budget because it’s too complicated, find a simple alternative. I had all the budget categories and so many envelopes when I used the money envelope system. It was great. Simplifying my budget gave me more control over it, and when I started to see that the budget was working for me, it gave me more motivation to stick with it.
Find a budgeting system that works for you
Whether you write your budget on paper, use spreadsheets or budgeting programs and applications, you need to find a budgeting system that works for you. I wouldn’t say I like papers lying around. Since I don’t like clutter, I chose a budgeting program to manage my budget. It works for us, and we like using it. What works for me may not work for you. Some of my friends use the old-fashioned pencil and paper; for them, this budgeting system works. If you are a visual person and need to be able to see your budget and progress, then a budget software or app is the way to go.
